It took some time but they finally diagnosed a very trick problem of a battery that always tested as good but apparently had an internal short that would drain its charge if the car was ubused for several days. Replaced the battery (still under warranty) at no charge and car now works fine. They have been very good at dealing with unusual problems in foreign cars.
